The Hermès Constance was introduced in 1967 after Jean-Louis Dumas asked a designer to create a new bag for the Maison. The designer, who was pregnant at the time, named the model after her newborn daughter, Constance. Its compact proportions, structured flap, and distinctive H-shaped clasp gave the bag a visual identity immediately different from Hermès’ larger top-handle designs.

Designed to move easily between shoulder and crossbody wear, the Constance uses a sliding strap that can be adjusted for different proportions and styling. Across its various sizes, leathers, colors, and interpretations, the collection retains the architectural clasp and streamlined silhouette that continue to define the Constance line.
