The Patek Philippe Grand Complications white gold Calatrava comes equipped with a 24-hour alarm, combining a contemporary alarm display with the more traditional design language of the collection. In this reference, the alarm function is integrated in a way that keeps the watch relatively legible and intuitive to use, while the textured navy blue lacquered dial and hobnail-decorated caseband give the model a more distinctive visual identity than a simpler Calatrava execution.
Its case is crafted in white gold and measures 41 mm in diameter with a thickness of 12.22 mm. The profile is shaped not only by the movement and alarm mechanism, but also by the detailing of the exterior, with the entire circumference of the caseband decorated with a hobnail pattern. That same motif extends to the pusher, while the lugs are skeletonized, giving the case a more elaborate construction than the straighter, more restrained Calatrava references in the collection. A sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement, and water resistance is rated to 30 metres.
The dial is executed in textured navy blue lacquer with a black-gradient rim. White gold applied numerals and syringe-shaped hands, all with white luminescent coating, create a display that combines classical Calatrava cues with more technical detailing. The date is shown by hand in a subdial at 6 o’clock, while the alarm indications are arranged through apertures rather than additional hands. The alarm time is displayed digitally and can be set in 15-minute increments, while separate apertures indicate alarm on or off status and the day or night phase relevant to the alarm display. This arrangement gives the watch a more instrument-like interface than a conventional time-and-date Calatrava, while keeping the dial relatively balanced.
Inside is the self-winding Patek Philippe calibre AL 30-660 S C, a movement developed around the 24-hour alarm function and date display. The alarm chimes on a classic gong and is driven by a single hammer, while the movement itself uses a 21K gold central rotor for winding. It measures 31 mm in diameter and 6.6 mm in thickness, consists of 524 parts, and uses 52 jewels. The power reserve ranges from a minimum of 42 hours to a maximum of 52 hours. It operates at 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour and incorporates a Gyromax balance and Spiromax balance spring. In this reference, the movement is especially notable because it combines an alarm complication with water resistance, a relatively unusual pairing in the context of chiming watches.
The watch is fitted as standard with a navy blue composite strap featuring a fabric pattern and contrasting cream stitching, secured by a patented triple-blade fold-over clasp in white gold. An additional beige calfskin strap with nubuck finish is also supplied. That pairing reinforces the watch’s dual character: on one hand a grand complication with a chiming alarm, and on the other a reference whose dial colour, textured lacquer surface, and composite strap give it a more contemporary and casual edge than many traditional Patek Philippe complications
